(In Nigeria) Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno Set to Join APC, Urges Cabinet to Follow or Resign

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, is making headlines in Nigeria with his decision to leave the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC). During a State Executive Council meeting on May 23, 2025, Eno confirmed his planned defection, citing the PDP’s internal leadership crisis as a key reason.

He directed all commissioners and political appointees to either join him in moving to the APC or submit their resignations, emphasizing his intent to maintain a unified administration. Sources indicate Eno’s admiration for President Bola Tinubu and support from APC’s Senate President Godswill Akpabio have bolstered his decision.

The move, expected to be formalized by June 6, could end over 25 years of PDP dominance in Akwa Ibom. The announcement has sparked intense discussions on X, with many speculating on its implications for the 2027 elections.
