On May 19, 2025, Kenya’s ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) expelled nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba, accusing her of being disloyal. The party claims she attended events with opposition figures, like former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, including his welcome at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on April 17 and a homecoming event in Gusii.

UDA wants her out of the Senate and has picked Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from Kimilili, Bungoma County, to replace her. Orwoba, famous for her 2023 menstrual health protest in the Senate, has fans who admire her activism but also critics who question her political ties. Her expulsion has started big talks in Kenya about party loyalty and free speech.
