The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Ghana has granted bail to Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), days after a controversial invasion of his residence. The politician’s release was approved on the evening of Tuesday, May 27, 2025, but he spent an additional night in custody due to challenges meeting the bail conditions, according to his lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi.
Appiah-Kubi further revealed that Chairman Wontumi fell ill during EOCO’s rigorous interrogation, attributing his client’s condition to the intense questioning. Wontumi is currently receiving medical treatment in a hospital, though the specific facility remains undisclosed. The news of his bail and hospitalization has sparked widespread discussion across Ghana, fueling the ongoing trend of EOCO-related conversations on social media
