Historic Deal: UK Agrees to Hand Over Sovereignty to Mauritius in £3.4 Billion Agreement.

The United Kingdom has agreed to relinquish sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius after a historic court rulling.

Movie fans and political observers alike are reacting to the landmark £3.4 billion deal, which includes leasing Diego Garcia to the UK for military use.

However, concerns remain as some Chagossians say they were not consulted, raising fresh debates over colonial legacy and native rights.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer defended the Chagos deal as vital for national security, citing support from the US and NATO.

While Mauritius' Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam hailed it as a step toward decolonisation, critics like Kemi Badenoch questioned the cost and exclusion of Chagossians.

The agreement, worth £101 million annually for 99 years, maintains UK-US operations on Diego Garcia with strict security terms.
