Hamas Agrees to U.S. Proposal on Gaza Ceasefire, Palestinian Official Says

Hamas has reportedly accepted a proposal from U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff for a ceasefire in Gaza, according to a Palestinian official close to the group. The proposal involves the release of ten Israeli hostages held by Hamas, the continuation of a 70-day truce, and partial withdrawal of Hamas fighters from the Gaza Strip.

The deal also includes the release of Palestinian prisoners, with some reports indicating that hundreds serving long sentences could be freed in exchange. The proposal was received by Hamas through mediators, signaling a potential step toward de-escalation of the ongoing conflict.

There has been no immediate response from Israel regarding the proposal. If successful, this agreement could mark a significant development in efforts to halt violence and improve humanitarian conditions in Gaza.
