Comedian Ruth Buzzi Passes Away at 88 After Battle with Alzheimer's





Ruth Buzzi, a renowned American actress and comedian, passed away on May 1, 2025, at the age of 88, due to complications from Alzheimer's disease. She died peacefully in her sleep at her Texas home while receiving hospice care. Buzzi had been battling Alzheimer's since her diagnosis in 2012.

Buzzi's illustrious career spanned multiple platforms, including stage, film, and television. She is best known for her performances on the comedy-variety show "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" from 1968 to 1973. Her talent earned her a Golden Globe Award and five Emmy nominations. One of her most iconic characters was Gladys Ormphby, a spinster who would often attack those who incurred her wrath with her purse.


Throughout her career, Buzzi showcased her versatility by appearing in various TV shows, films, and commercials. Some notable roles include her appearances on "Sesame Street" as shopkeeper Ruthie, "The Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts," and animated series like "Pound Puppies" and "Berenstain Bears". She also voiced characters in numerous cartoons, including "The Smurfs" and "The Angry Beavers".
