ALICIA KEYS (female Artiste of the day)

Alicia Keys, born Alicia Augello Cook on January 25, 1981, in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, was raised by her mother, Teresa Augello, a part-time actress and paralegal, after her father left when she was two.

A prodigy, Alicia began playing piano at age 7, mastering classical composers like Beethoven, Chopin, and Mozart. By age 12, she was writing songs and had enrolled at the Professional Performing Arts School, where she majored in choir. At 16, she graduated as valedictorian and later briefly attended Columbia University before dropping out to pursue music full-time.
