UK Rap Group Kneecap Sparks Outrage Over Violent Comments

Kneecap is making waves in the United Kingdom because the Belfast-based rap group has come under fire after footage emerged from a 2023 concert in which a member appeared to say, “Kill your local MP” and “The only good Tory is a dead Tory.”

The remarks sparked outrage from politicians and the public, prompting an apology to the families of Jo Cox and David Amess, and a counter-terrorism police investigation.

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has called for prosecution, while Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s spokesperson condemned the comments as “completely unacceptable,” vowing to cut public funding for the group.

Kneecap insists the clip was taken out of context and denies promoting violence.

The trio previously won a legal case over withdrawn arts funding.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper also labelled their remarks “a total disgrace” and warned of serious consequences.
