Alté which is short for "alternative" is a Nigerian youth-led cultural movement and music genre characterized by its fusion of Afrobeats, dancehall, reggae, hip-hop, and alternative R&B, emphasizing individualistic self-expression.

The term "alté" was coined in 2010 by Nigerian music group DRB LasGidi and was first heard on Boj's 2014 song "Paper".
