HIS EARLY DAYS.

Kofi Annan’s journey began in colonial Ghana, where he was raised in a family that valued education and service. His early years shaped his worldview, instilling in him a deep sense of responsibility toward others.After studying economics and international relations in Ghana, Switzerland, and the United States, Annan joined the United Nations in 1962. What began as a modest role in the World Health Organization would eventually lead him to the pinnacle of global leadership as the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations, a position he held from 1997 to 2006.Annan was the first Secretary-General to rise through the ranks of the UN itself, a testament to his dedication and skill. He wasn’t afraid to speak out, famously criticizing the 2003 invasion of Iraq as "illegal" under international law. THE MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS.

One of Annan’s most transformative contributions was the creation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in 2000.
