North Central is trending in Nigeria because of debates surrounding the geographical and ethnic identity of the new NNPCL GCEO, Bayo Ojulari.
While some accuse President Tinubu of favouring Southerners, particularly the Yoruba, others argue that Ojulari is a Northerner from North Central.
They assert that unless Kwara’s western parts and a third of Kogi return to the West, his Northern identity stands.

Bayo Bashir Ojulari, from Kwara State, is a seasoned engineer with over 34 years in the oil and gas industry.
He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Ojulari began his career as Elf Aquitaine's first Nigerian process engineer, then joined Shell Petroleum Development Company in 1991.
He became Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company in 2015. In April 2025, he was appointed Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited.
