Kenya's Ex-Governor Ferdinand Waititu Sentenced to 12 Years for Ksh588 Million Corruption Scandal.

Waititu is trending in Kenya because of his recent political and legal developments. Convicted in February 2025 for a Ksh588 million corruption scandal, the former Kiambu Governor was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

His failed bid for release on bond, exit from the Kenya Kwanza coalition, and claims of political persecution have sparked debate, with some seeing him as a victim and others criticizing his past graft.

Ferdinand Waititu’s legal troubles stem from a 2018 Ksh588 million road tender scandal during his tenure as Kiambu Governor.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission began investigating in 2017 after allegations of irregular contract awards to Testimony Enterprises Ltd., linked to Waititu and his wife.

Convicted in February 2025 for conflict of interest and fraud, he received a 12-year sentence, spotlighting Kenya’s anti-corruption efforts.
