(In The U.S.): Washington Weighs Crimea Concession in Potential Ukraine-Russia Peace Agreement.

...

The United States has reportedly floated a controversial proposal to recognize Russia’s annexation of Crimea and freeze the current front lines of the ongoing conflict as part of a potential peace agreement, according to a report by The Washington Post.

Sources familiar with the discussions said the proposal was quietly presented to Ukrainian officials during a meeting in Paris last week.

...
The plan would effectively solidify Russia’s grip on Crime a region it forcibly annexed in 2014 in exchange for a halt to active hostilities and a long-term ceasefire.

Such a move, if confirmed, would mark a significant shift in U.S.

posture toward the war in Ukraine and has already sparked concerns about the implications for international law, territorial sovereignty, and the broader geopolitical order.

...

Critics argue that legitimizing Russia’s control over Crimea could embolden further territorial aggression, not just in Ukraine but globally.

There has yet to be an official response from the Ukrainian government or a public statement from U.S. officials regarding the reported proposal.

...
However, the suggestion alone is expected to fuel intense debate among Western allies and within Ukraine, where resistance to ceding any territory remains strong.
