(In Uganda) Kyambogo University Protests: Police Crackdown Sparks Outrage

 

Tensions escalated at Kyambogo University in Uganda as police employed tear gas and live ammunition to quell student protests. The demonstrations were sparked by late registration surcharges.

Led by Guild President Akiso Benjamin, the students also demand to sit exams despite 

outstanding tuition balances. Tensions rose as Akiso was arrested, sparking national outrage.

 Protesters remain resolute, with the Guild calling for continued demonstrations until their demands are addressed.

In response, the National Unity Platform condemned the arrest and demanded the immediate release of Akiso Benjamin. 

They expressed solidarity with the students, stressing the importance of accessible and affordable education. 

The situation has gained widespread attention, especially after live footage showed heavy police presence on campus. 

Students insist the university’s policies are unfair and exclusionary, and plan to sustain pressure until reforms are made.
