Today April 25, 2025, musician Terry Apala was remanded to Ikoyi Prison over a naira mutilation charge.
He allegedly trampled on naira notes during a January event at La Madison Place, Oniru.
The act violates Section 21(1) of the CBN Act, 2007. Trial begins May 5.
Terry Apala pleaded not guilty, but videos from the event allegedly show him stepping on money.
The EFCC and police have ramped up enforcement of naira abuse laws since the viral arrest of crossdresser Bobrisky earlier this year.
Earlier on, activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) released a video accusing Apala of bribing the EFCC to avoid arrest.
The video quickly went viral, fuelling speculation and online outrage against the artist.
Terry Apala through his legal team, has denied the bribery allegations.
He issued a 48-hour ultimatum to VDM, demanding the video be taken down and an apology be issued, threatening legal action if not complied with.
As May 5 approaches, all eyes are on the Lagos court.
Will Apala walk free or face consequences?
And will VDM backtrack or double down?
One thing’s clear: both men are at the centre of a very public and messy storm.
