The Supreme Court has set aside the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Abuja recognising Julius Abure as National Chairman of The Labour Party. While noting that Abure's actual tenure had since expired, The Supreme Court ruled that issues of leadership are internal affairs of a political party over which courts lack jurisdiction.

Abure became chairman of The Labour Party in the year 2021 and since then, his tenure has been fraught with controversy.
Julius Abure's chairmanship has been repeatedly challenged by another faction of The Labour Party led by Lamidi Apapa, the party's suspended deputy national chairman, who claimed to have removed Abure through a court order.
