Court Sentences Gospel Singer Osinachi’s Husband to Death

Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, has sentenced Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of late gospel singer Osinachi, to death by hanging. The court found him guilty of culpable homicide in relation to Osinachi's death on April 8, 2022.

During the trial, which began with Nwachukwu's arraignment on June 3, 2022, he faced 23 charges from the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, including culpable homicide, criminal intimidation, spousal battery, and cruelty to children. The prosecution presented a strong case with 17 witnesses, including testimonies from two of Osinachi's children, alongside 25 documents as evidence.

The judge determined that the prosecution met its burden of proof, leading to Nwachukwu's conviction. Shortly before the sentencing, his defense counsel, Reginald Nwali, requested leniency, while prosecutor Mrs. Aderonke Imala urged the court to impose a strict penalty in accordance with the law.
