Court Orders EFCC to Release Aisha Achimugu Within 24 Hours

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release socialite and businesswoman Aisha Achimugu within 24 hours. The court also directed the parties involved to report back on May 2nd regarding the implementation of this order.

Previously, on Monday, Justice Ekwo directed Achimugu to appear voluntarily at the EFCC office concerning investigations into allegations of money laundering, conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence, and possession of unlawfully obtained properties.

Achimugu was arrested early Tuesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 5 a.m., after which she was detained by the EFCC. The agency claims she jumped bail, leading to her being declared wanted. She had previously been questioned and released on administrative bail by the EFCC but is now under renewed scrutiny.

The court's latest order mandates the EFCC to promptly release her and to present a report on her status by April 30. The order signifies ongoing legal efforts to address the allegations, which involve serious financial crimes.
