In Carlifornia: Red Sox star Jarren Duran talks Mental Health Journey.

Red Sox star Jarren Duran opens up about his mental health struggles in Netflix’s 'The Clubhouse.'

In 2022, he nearly took his own life with a rifle that misfired, a moment he credits to divine intervention.

Now an All Star and advocate, he’s proof there’s hope beyond the darkness.

Jarren Duran, a key player for the Boston Red Sox, recently shared a raw and emotional story about his mental health challenges during his early MLB career.

Featured in the Netflix series "The Clubhouse: A Year With the Red Sox," which follows the team’s 2024 season, Duran revealed that in 2022, he hit a low point and attempted suicide. Alone in his room, he loaded a rifle, pulled the trigger, but it only clicked, failing to fire. He believes this was a sign he was meant to live.

That year, Duran struggled on the field, batting just .221 with a .645 OPS in 58 games. Public criticism after errors, like a misplayed fly ball that became an inside the park grand slam, added to his stress. The pressure and disappointment nearly broke him. Since then, Duran has turned his life and career around. By 2024, he became an All Star, won the All Star Game MVP award with a clutch home run, and led the league in doubles (48) while tying for triples (14).

His stats, including a .285 batting average, 21 home runs, and 34 stolen bases, show his growth. Beyond baseball, he now speaks out about mental health, hoping to inspire others. Red Sox president Sam Kennedy commended Duran’s bravery, noting that his openness proves seeking help is vital.

Duran’s journey from despair to triumph highlights the hidden struggles athletes face and the power of resilience. His story is a reminder that even in the toughest moments, there’s a way forward, and he’s living proof of that hope.
