Former South African President Jacob Zuma is celebrating his 83rd birthday today, April 12, with supporters flooding social media with goodwill messages and celebratory posts under his clan name "Nxamalala," which means "nap or rest" in Zulu.
Zuma, also known as "Msholozi," meaning "fast actions or quick work," served as the fourth president of South Africa from 2009 to 2018
Born in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal, Zuma joined the African National Congress (ANC) at 17 and spent a decade on Robben Island Prison for fighting against apartheid.
He's a notable figure in South African politics, having led the ANC from 2007 to 2017 and being the father-in-law of Eswatini King Mswati III ¹.
