Ex-Cricketer Michael Slater Sentenced for Domestic Violence, Released After Time Served.

Former Australian Test cricketer Michael Slater has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple domestic violence charges.

However, he was released immediately due to time already served in custody.​

Slater, aged 55, faced 19 charges related to incidents that occurred between December 2023 and April 2024 in Noosa, Queensland.

The charges included unlawful stalking, assault occasioning bodily harm, choking or suffocation, breaking into a dwelling with intent at night, and multiple counts of common assault .​

Court proceedings revealed that Slater sent over 100 abusive text messages daily to the victim and made threats of self-harm, causing significant fear and distress. 

Judge Glen Cash highlighted alcohol as a key factor in Slater’s erratic behavior, noting his alcoholism had previously derailed his career and posed ongoing rehabilitation challenges.

In April 2024, he collapsed in court after his bail application was refused . 

He remained in custody for over a year before his sentencing on April 22, 2025.

​At the Maroochydore District Court, Slater was sentenced to four years in prison. 

However, having already served more than 12 months in custody, the remainder of his sentence was suspended for five years, allowing for his immediate release .

This means that if Slater commits any further offenses during this period, he will be required to serve the remaining portion of his sentence in prison.
