China Urges Japan to Join Forces Against US Tariffs

Chinese Premier Li Qiang has reached out to Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, calling for a united front against US President Donald Trump's tariff measures. In a letter sent via the Chinese embassy in Japan, Li emphasized the need to "fight protectionism together," according to Kyodo news agency, which cited multiple Japanese government officials.

The appeal comes amid escalating trade tensions between China and the US, with Beijing warning countries against making economic deals with Washington at its expense. Japan, a key US ally, has been targeted by Trump's tariffs and is currently negotiating with the US to resolve the issue. The strained relationship between Beijing and Tokyo adds complexity to Li's proposal, given their historical territorial disputes and trade tensions.
