The EFCC had earlier declared Bello wanted and filed fresh charges against him, accusing him of a staggering N110 billion fraud. This comes after an earlier case involving 19 counts of money laundering, totaling N80.2 billion, filed against Bello, his nephew Ali Bello, Dauda Suliman, and Abdulsalam Hudu.

According to the court documents, Bello allegedly committed the offences between 2016 and 2023, violating Section 311 of the Penal Code Law, Cap. 89 Laws of Northern Nigeria 1963, which deals with criminal breach of trust. Additionally, he's accused of possessing property suspected to have been obtained through unlawful means, contravening Section 319A.

The EFCC has been instrumental in investigating and prosecuting high-profile cases of financial malfeasance in Nigeria. The commission's dedication to combating corruption and ensuring accountability has led to several notable convictions.

Bello's summons has significant implications for Nigeria's anti-corruption efforts. The case highlights the EFCC's commitment to holding public officials accountable for their actions. If convicted, Bello faces severe consequences, including imprisonment and forfeiture of illegally acquired assets.

Bello is required to appear before High Court No. 3, Maitama, on November 14, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. The outcome of this case will be closely watched, as it sets a precedent for future corruption cases.

The summoning of Yahaya Bello marks a significant milestone in Nigeria's fight against corruption. As the case unfolds, Nigerians will be watching closely to see justice served. The EFCC's efforts demonstrate a commitment to transparency and accountability, sending a strong message to public officials: corruption will not be tolerated.
