A Highly Coveted Talent

Mullins, ranked as the 17th overall recruit in the country, brings not only star power but also tremendous potential to UConn’s basketball program. Standing at 6-foot-5, Mullins is known for his scoring ability, basketball IQ, and versatility on the court. A shooting guard from Greenfield Central High School in Indiana, he has shown that he’s more than just a sharpshooter; he’s a well-rounded playmaker with exceptional decision-making skills.

With Mullins' commitment, UConn has now secured three top-25 players for the 2025 class, including Darius Adams (No. 19) and Eric Reibe (No. 23). This makes UConn’s 2025 recruiting class one of the strongest in the nation, positioning them for continued success in the future.

Why UConn?

Mullins had his pick of elite programs, including offers from Indiana and North Carolina, both of which he visited officially. However, after careful consideration, Mullins chose UConn, citing his strong relationship with Coach Dan Hurley and the program's recent back-to-back national championships as key factors in his decision.

"I felt like playing for Coach Hurley was the best decision and fit for myself," Mullins told ESPN. "Coming off back-to-back national championships, he understands winning and that meant a lot to me."

Coach Hurley and his staff had been actively pursuing Mullins since last spring, offering him a scholarship and inviting him to visit campus over the summer. Mullins mentioned that his relationship with Hurley, which was built over months of consistent communication through text, FaceTime, and visits, ultimately tipped the scales in UConn’s favor.

"I also had a great relationship with Coach Hurley. We would text, talk, FaceTime. The relationship I built with him and winning national championships came together and helped me and my decision," Mullins shared. "A national championship is the ultimate goal when you go to college. I want to have a chance for that."

Mullins emphasized that Coach Hurley's coaching style, which demands hard work and discipline, resonated with him on a personal level. He appreciates Hurley’s straightforward approach, describing him as "very upfront", and believes that his hard-nosed coaching will push him to reach his full potential.

Mullins’ stock rose significantly during his performances on the Adidas 3SSB circuit with Indiana Elite, after overcoming a stress fracture during the high school season. In 17 games, Mullins averaged 19.4 points per game and shot an impressive 47.3% from 3-point range, establishing himself as one of the best shooters in the 2025 class. His ability to hit multiple 3-pointers per game, including a standout 6-for-6 performance in a game against Upward Stats, solidified his reputation as an elite marksman.

Yet, Mullins is not just a shooter. His game is built on versatility. He can effectively read defenses, move without the ball to create opportunities, and excel in both transition and half-court settings. His coach at Greenfield Central, Luke Meredith, praised Mullins for his high basketball IQ, vision, and willingness to make the right play for his team.

"Braylon is a terrific decision-maker, always making the right play at the right time," Meredith said. "He's the best shooter in the country in my opinion. Great vision, good size for his position, willing passer, good with both hands finishing and passing, and an elite basketball IQ to boot. Just a special player and an even better young man."

UConn’s Recruiting Power

With Mullins’ commitment, UConn now boasts one of the top recruiting classes in the country. For the first time since ESPN began tracking recruiting in 2007, UConn has landed three top-25 prospects in the same class, joining Duke as the only other program to have multiple top-25 recruits in 2025. Over the past three recruiting cycles, the Huskies have secured commitments from 10 ESPN 100 players, solidifying their position as one of the top programs in college basketball.

Under Coach Hurley, UConn has returned to national prominence, winning consecutive national championships and re-establishing itself as a perennial powerhouse. The addition of Mullins, along with Adams and Reibe, further enhances their chances of continuing this success in the coming years.

Looking Ahead

Braylon Mullins’ commitment marks a significant moment not only for UConn but for college basketball as a whole. His decision to join the Huskies strengthens their already elite recruiting class and sets the stage for the program’s future. With his shooting ability, basketball IQ, and drive to win, Mullins is poised to make an immediate impact once he steps on campus.

For UConn fans, this commitment signals that the Huskies are not slowing down anytime soon. With top-tier talent like Mullins, Adams, and Reibe leading the charge, UConn’s pursuit of future championships looks brighter than ever.
