The #EndSARS protest, which began in October 2020, was a nationwide call to action against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and other units of the Nigerian Police Force accused of human rights abuses. The movement gained momentum, with thousands taking to the streets to demand reform and accountability.

However, the peaceful protests took a tragic turn on October 20, 2020, when security forces opened fire on unarmed demonstrators at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos. The incident resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries, sparking widespread outrage and international condemnation.

Four years on, Nigerians are still seeking justice for the victims and their families. The memorial demonstration serves as a reminder of the unfinished business of police reform and the need for accountability.

"The Lekki Toll Gate incident was a watershed moment in our nation's history," said Lagos-based activist, Oyinlola Olayemi. "We cannot forget the sacrifices made by our brothers and sisters who demanded a better Nigeria. We will continue to push for change."

The memorial demonstration comes amidst renewed calls for police reform. Nigerians are demanding:

1. Implementation of the #EndSARS report recommendations

2. Prosecution of officers involved in human rights abuses

3. Increased transparency and accountability within the police force

4. Improved training and welfare for police personnel

Nigerians from all walks of life are expected to converge at the Lekki Toll Gate to pay their respects to the victims. The event will feature:

1. Candlelight vigil

2. Tributes to the fallen

3. Speeches by activists and thought leaders

4. Music and poetry performances
