NYSC Certificate Scandal: Minister Hannatu Musa Musawa Under Fire

A lingering scandal has engulfed Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, over her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate. The controversy has sparked outrage, with many Nigerians questioning her eligibility for public office.

In 2020, President Buhari nominated Musawa for ministerial appointment. During screening, she failed to produce an NYSC certificate or exemption letter. Musawa claimed to have completed service in 2003, but her documents were allegedly destroyed in a house fire.

The NYSC disputed Musawa's claim, stating she "absconded" from service. After searching files from 2001 to 2003, they found no record of her service. Musawa later claimed she didn't collect her certificate due to illness, which NYSC deemed untrue.

In a surprising turn, Musawa revealed she re-enrolled for NYSC in 2023, serving another eight months. She claimed to have "served twice." However, this move raised further questions, as she was over 30 years old – above the eligible age – and serving while holding public office.

Nigeria's constitution prohibits individuals from holding public office without completing NYSC or obtaining an exemption. Musawa's actions have sparked accusations of nepotism and disregard for the law.

Nigerians demand transparency and accountability, questioning Musawa's eligibility for ministerial appointment. Critics argue her actions undermine the integrity of the NYSC program and the country's leadership.

As the controversy unfolds, citizens urge authorities to investigate Musawa's case and ensure compliance with the constitution.
