Following a tweet by controversial presidential aspirant, publisher and self-acclaimed activist, Omoyele Sowore, stating that upon arrival at The Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos(MMIA), from The USA earlier today, he had been immediately detained and his passport confiscated by The Nigerian Immigration, a group of the publisher's alleged supporters stormed the airport to demand his release. News of Sowore's arrest comes after a leaked memo dated 12 September 2024, ordering the politician's arrest made the rounds on social media. His plane left The Washington Dulles International Airport at 6.14 EDT and arrived in Lagos around 9.43am on Sunday 15 September, 2024.
The airport protest organised by Omoyele Sowore's supporters is despite the fact that in a subsequent tweet, the publisher posted that he had been released and his passport returned to him. Speaking of his detention, the presidential candidate stated that his arrest had been unexpected following his involvement in the recent nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest and the next #RevolutionNow demonstration scheduled for October 2024. Despite Sowore's detailing of an arrest, detention and subsequent release, The Nigerian Immigration Service is yet to give a public statement regarding the politician and publisher's accusations.
