Sitting New York Mayor Indicted for Federal Crimes;Calls for Prayers

 Current Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, has been indicted in a federal corruption investigation. Eric Adams who is a retired police captain, was elected as New York City's 110th mayor in 2022. He is the first mayor in New York City history to be charged with crimes while in office. While the indictment which was handed the Mayor on Wednesday 25th September 2024 remains sealed, reports state that a part of the indictment is in regards to Adams' conspiracy with the Turkish government to receive illegal foreign donations towards his mayoral campaign. These charges against the public officer come less than a year after federal agents seized Adams' electronic devices and searched the home of Brianna Suggs, his chief fundraiser.

Following his Wednesday indictment, the 64 year old mayor released a video statement proclaiming his innocence. Vowing to fight the charges and remain in office, Mayor Adams implored his city's residents for "prayers and patience". Federal prosecutors are expected to unseal the indictment on Thursday, when Adams will make an initial court appearance. A growing list of members of the public have since the revelation of the indictment, called for the immediate resignation of Eric Adams.
