Following the 220 million dollar fine imposed a week ago on technology company, Meta, over alleged WhatsApp data breach policy by Nigeria's Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), an anonymous WhatsApp spokesperson has revealed that Meta is contemplating the withdrawal of certain services from Nigeria.The spokesperson criticized the FCCPC’s order as flawed, asserting that it inaccurately portrays WhatsApp’s data handling and would necessitate significant changes to the platform’s infrastructure.

Responding to WhatsApp's claim of a possible exit from Nigeria, The FCCPC labelled it a strategic move aimed at influencing public opinion and a potential pressure on The Commission to reconsider its decision. Emphasizing the multiple privacy infringement orchestrated by Meta, The FCCPC affirmed that its actions against WhatsApp are based on legitimate concerns about consumer protection and data privacy.
