The government of The Republic of Turkey has commenced the process of unblocking Instagram accounts across the country after a 9 day access deprivation. The government blocked nationwide access to the social media platform on 2nd August 2024, without prior warning or providing reasons for the action.

Speaking on the nine day deprivation of Instagram access, Turkey's minister of Transport and Infrastructure,Abdulkadir Uraloglu, accused Meta of a refusal to delete Instagram content relating to posts involving gambling, drugs and child abuse(despite repeated denials from the technology company). In Mr Uraloglu's words: "Following our negotiations with representatives of Instagram, we will unblock access starting from 9:30 pm (1830 GMT) after they agreed to respond to our demands.Since the beginning, we have wanted social media platforms to respect the laws of the Republic."
