Police IG Confirms Trial of Arrested Protesters

 Inspector General of The Nigeria Police Force, Kayode Egbetokun, has revealed that the trial of arrested protesters in the #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protests, has commenced. The Police IG while speaking during a meeting with security agency heads in Abuja on Tuesday 6th August 2024, affirmed that the suspects were being tried at the police headquarters as a result of their large numbers.

It will be recalled that on Monday 5th August, The Nigeria Police Force stated that over 800 arrests were made in regards to offences committed in the ongoing protests. In the words of The Police IGP: "I want to tell you that the trail of those suspects arrested during protests has begun. In Kano for example, because we have a large number of arrests, the magistrate moved to the police headquarters and that is where the trial is ongoing right now. If you go to police headquarters in Kano now, you will find out that arrested persons are already being tried. So we are not keeping them indefinitely. “
