Head coach of D'Tigress, Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, Rena Wakama, has been named the Best Female Basketball Coach at the Paris 2024 Olympics tournament. The International Basketball Federation (IBF) in a tweet, disclosed Ms Wakama's recognition with the words: "Best coach of #Paris2024 Women’s Basketball, Rene Wakama, Nigeria."

A former player herself, 32 year old Rena Wakama is the head coach for the Nigeria Senior Women's Basketball Team and an assistant coach at Tulane University, Louisiana, USA. While she was at university, Rena played for the Western Carolina Catamounts for four years. Immediately she left college, she joined the D'Tigress where she played for the team at the 2015 Women's Afrobasket tournament in Cameroon where Nigeria finished third. She also represented Nigeria's First Bank at the FIBA Africa Champions Cup for Women during her career as a player.
