Brazilian Supreme Federal Court judge and minister, Alexandre de Moraes, has given a judgement ordering Apple and Google to take down the social media application X formerly known as Twitter, from their stores. The technology companies were issued a five day ultimatum to remove X from their respective application stores and block its use on iOS and Android systems. The judgement also extends to the removal of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) with a proposed $10,000 fine for any Brazilian who dares to use the X app. The judgement comes after X failed to to meet a deadline set by a Supreme Court judge to name a new legal representative in the country.

The judge, Alexandre de Moraes, ordered the "immediate and complete suspension" of the social media platform until it complies with all court orders and pays existing fines. X's legal battle in Brazil first started in April when the judge ordered a suspension of multiple X accounts on allegations of spreading wrong information. Reacting to the decision, X CEO and world's richest man, Elon Musk said: "Free speech is the bedrock of democracy and an unelected pseudo-judge in Brazil is destroying it for political purposes."
