Chief Judge of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, Justice John Tsoho, has directed that the request by a former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, that the money laundering suit instituted against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission be transferred to Kogi, be heard in an open court. In a letter addressed to the former governor's counsel, the Chief Judge stressed that the request was denied as a result of a pending appeal between Yahaya Bello and The FG, and as such,it was improper to take any step that might affect the outcome of the appeal.

The former governor is faced with a 19 count charge levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)on issues of money laundering and funds misappropriation on an estimated 80.2 billion naira. Yahaya Bello had during the June 27 proceedings which led to the adjournment of his arraignment to 17 July, sought via his legal team, to have his 80.2 billion naira money laundering and misappropriation case transferred from Abuja to the Federal High Court, Lokoja Judicial Division, Kogi state. During the proceedings, The EFCC which instituted the case against the former governor, had shown strong resistance to his request of an administrative transfer to Kogi state.
