Video: Ghanaian Chef Apologises for Forging GWR Certificate

 Ghanaian Chef, Ebenezer Smith, popularly referred to as Millennium Chef Smith, who was on Wednesday 3rd July, 2024, arrested and detained at the La police station for forging a Guinness World Records recognition certificate in order to host a widely sponsored marathon cooking event, has tendered a teary apology to the Ghanaian president, vice president, First Lady, and the entire people of Ghana for his deceit. In a video making the rounds on the internet, Chef Smith, while seeking forgiveness on bended knees, claimed to have registered for the category but failed to seek approval. He tearily explained that he had merely sought an opportunity to show the world his passion for cooking and obtain fame.

Ebenezer Smith's marathon cooking scam was busted after PR Executive for GWR, Alina Polianskaya, confirmed the invalidity of his certificate to The BBC. As a result of Ebenezer Smith's false claim, The Guinness World Records has now officially deactivated its "Cookathon" category. The current original record for the longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119hr 57 min 16 sec was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from 28 September to 3rd October 2023. Alan Fisher's predecessor was Nigerian chef, Hilda Baci who cooked for 93 hours to set her record.
