A school identified as Saints Academy, located in Busa Buji, Jos, the Plateau state capital, has collapsed. The two storey building caved in on the morning on Friday 12 July and while the schoolchildren were within its premises taking their exams. More than a dozen children have been confirmed dead with scores of others fighting for their lives in hospital. The collapse has sparked widespread panic amongst parents and relatives of the children and teachers trapped in the school.

The collapse occurred around 10:30 am has had combined team of the armed forces, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and their state counterparts engaged in rescue efforts. There also also been an urgent call for blood donors in the Busa Buji area to report to hospitals where the victims of the collapsed building have been taken to for treatment.
