Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has on a post on his official social media platforms, announced that all pension backlogs in the state have been cleared. The governor stated that with a payment of ₦4.46 billion to 2,000 retirees, the state has fulfilled its commitment to eliminate outstanding pension arrears.

Governor Sanwo-Olu further stated that with the now introduced Pay As You Go template, employees of the Lagos State Government will henceforth, receive their full pension and gratuity immediately after retirement, a development that is a huge step away from prior processes of a long wait time before senior citizens are able to claim their retirement benefits. The governor further reiterated his commitment to the well-being of retirees by revealing that a special health insurance scheme specially tailored for retired employees of the Lagos State Government has now been launched.
