Former speaker of The House of Representatives, Honourable Yakubu Dogara, has revealed that his salary during his time as Speaker of the House, was 400,000 naira. He further disclosed that in addition to his salary, he received an allowance of about 25 million naira. While speaking at the two-day House of Representatives open week celebration in Abuja, Dogara said the salary clarification was necessary following public misconception that members of the National Assembly earn huge salaries and allowances, thus leading the public to label lawmakers thieves and other negative names.

Yakubu Dogara is a lawyer who served as the 13th Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria from 2015 to 2019. He's a member of The People's Democratic Party (PDP) and served as the House of Representatives Member for Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa Balewa Federal constituency of Bauchi State from 2007 to 2023. Dogara, who has sponsored many bills, is a strong advocate for the independence of the legislature and has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2007. His legislative interests include tenancy, regulating monopolies, company law, and intellectual property.
