Four years after the 26 January 2020death of basketball player Kobe Bryant in a helicopter crash, his father, Joe Bryant, has passed away at the age of 69. Joe died after he suffered a massive stroke on 16 July 2024 and is survived by his wife of 49 years, Pam Cox, their two daughters, Sharia and Shaya and multiple grandchildren. Joe who had a close-knit relationship with his deceased son Kobe, reportedly never recovered from the shock of the basketball star's death.

Popularly referred to as "Jellybean" as a result of his flexibility despite his 6 feet 9 frame, Joseph Washington Bryant was a professional basketball player and coach. He played for the Philadelphia 76ers, San Diego Clippers, and Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He also played for several teams in Italy and one in France. Bryant was the head coach of the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks from 2005 to 2007[2] and returned to that position for the remainder of the 2011 WNBA season. Bryant also coached in Italy, Japan, and Thailand. Joe's son, legendary basketball player Kobe Bryant, was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
