President of The United States of America, Joe Biden, has via an official statement, announced his decision to stand down in his bid for reelection in the forthcoming US presidential elections. The president who promised to speak to the nation at a later date of his decision, expressed his deepest gratitude to those who had worked to ensure his reelection.

President Biden in explaining his decision to stand down, stated that it was in the best interest of his party and country to do so. Describing his role as America's president as the greatest honour of his life, the 81 year old president thanked his vice, Kamala Harris, for being an extraordinary partner while expressing his staunch support as well as nomination for Ms. Harris as his replacement and candidate in the forthcoming election. Mr Biden will despite his withdrawal from the presidential race, stay on for the final six months of his term
