Spokesperson of The Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundenyin, has confirmed the arrest of an unnamed couple who attempted to sell their two year old son in a bid to raise funds for relocation to Canada. The police spokesperson revealed that the couple aged 28 and 22, were arrested at the point where they had been trying to finalize the sale of their son.

The couple had prior to the attempted sale of their toddler, visited the Isolo General Hospital and advertised their intention to sell the boy. The police was tipped off by anonymous sources and closed in on the couple in the middle of the exchange on Thursday 11 July, 2024. Providing details of the arrest, SP Benjamin Hundenyin stated: "The baby’s age is two and he has been rescued. Upon interrogation, the couple confessed that they decided to sell the baby to enable the man to travel to Canada for a greener pasture. However, the investigation is ongoing."
