FG Reverses Minimum Age for Tertiary Admission

The Federal Government of Nigeria has reversed it earlier instruction to The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) to offer admission to only candidates who have reached the age of 18. Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, in an ongoing policy meeting organised by JAMB, in Abuja, announced that only applicants who were 18 years and above were eligible for admission.

This reversal of the previously announced eligibility age of 16, occurred after stakeholders in the meeting kicked against it, noting that it is illogical for a 16-year-old student to pass WAEC, JAMB and be denied admission. The minister accepted the suggestions of the stakeholders and agreed to a reversal of the earlier status quo.  The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board also update the information on eligible examination age on its website and official social media platforms.
