Despite the protest which has led to a face-off between Kenyan citizens and the police, Kenya’s parliament has voted to advance the Finance Bill 2024 with 204 MPs in support and 115 against. In response to the backlash regarding the bill, the Kenyan government has withdrawn some contentious provisions, like the 16% tax on bread and a 2.5% annual tax on vehicles.
