In a video making the rounds on social media, a section of the recently launched Dangote Refinery, caught fire today. The refinery located in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos, reportedly caught fire at about midnight on Wednesday 26 June and raged until it was contained hours later by firefighters in Lagos. According to anonymous sources, the inferno was caused by an undetected cable leakage.The refinery's management while speaking to the press, assured that the fire had been contained and the refinery still in operation. They also revealed that there was no record of injury or body harm to any member of staff on duty at the time of the fire outbreak.

The Dangote Refinery which is the world’s largest single-train refinery is owned by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote. The 650,000 barrels per day capacity refinery which cost an estimated investment of 19 billion dollars, commenced operations on 12 January 2024 after it was launched in May 2023 by former president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.
