South Korean Billionaire Set to Pay $1b in Divorce Settlement

 South Korean billionaire and chairman of SK Group conglomerate, Chey Tae-won(also known as Anthony Chey), has been ordered to pay his estranged wife  the sum of 1.38 trillion won ($1bn) in cash, marking the country’s largest-ever divorce settlement. Chey Tae-Won's now ex-wife, Roh Soh-yeong, is the daughter of former South Korean President Roh Tae-woo and in seeking her divorce settlemen, are lawyers insisted that Roh Soh-yeong played a vital in increasing the value of her ex-husband's company.  Despite the court's judgment which highlighted Chey's  unrepentant attitude “for his foul behaviour in the course of the trial nor respect for monogamy", the businessman's lawyers have revealed that they intend to appeal the decision.

Chey Tae-Won and Roh Soh-yeong got married in 1988 and have three children together. In the year 2011 the couple became estranged and in 2015, Chey publicly revealed his intention to seek a divorce. In June 2021, the business magnet was declared the 14th richest person in South Korea with an estimated net worth of US$3.6 billion. The bulk of his fortune comes from SK Inc., holding company of SK Group.
