Despite Omoyele's call for a nationwide June 12 protest, the Department of State Service (DSS) in a strongly worded press statement, that "the determination of some none-state actors to incite mass disaffection through demonstrations that may turn violent will not be tolerated". The seemingly warning press statement issued by the DSS was shared by the originator of the protest idea, Omoyele Sowore with the declaration that "the power of the people is much stronger than the people in power".
