Labour Party: Lamidi Apapa Accepts Defeat

One year after the leadership of the Labour Party was divided, with the incumbent National Chairman, Julius Abure and the Deputy National Chairman of the party (South), Lamidi Apapa, boyh laying claims to the mantle of leadership, the two factions have decided to give up their power tussle by accepting Julius Abure as the true leader of the party. Despite conceding to Abure's position as chairman of the party, sources from the Lamidi led faction of the LP have revealed that both factions reconciled their differences in order to present a united front in their fight against the presidential candidate of the party in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Supporters of Abure and Apapa were torn apart in April 2023, following a court judgment restraining Abure and three other Labour party executives from parading themselves as national officers of the party. However, Abure vigorously fought back to retain his seat with the help of the Nigeria Labour Congress, under the leadership of its National President, Joe Ajaero. The embattled LP chairman, however, fell out of favour with the NLC following a contentious national convention held in Anambra that returned him and all loyal members of his National Working Committee to office three months ago.
