The trial of Hunter Biden, second son of American president Joe Biden, on felony gun charges has commenced in Wilmington, Delaware. The president's son who has been accused of illegally purchasing and possessing a gun while abusing or being addicted to drugs, a violation of federal law. pled not guilty to the three charges, despite his well-known struggles with alcohol and crack cocaine addiction. Hunter Biden's trial marks the first time in American history that the child of an incumbent president would stand trial.

Hunter Biden is the sole surviving son of The US president and if convicted on all three charges at the end of his trial which is expected to last two weeks, he could face a maximum punishment of 25 years in prison, according to the US Department of Justice. Despite his indictments being federal offenses, The White House has explicitly ruled out any possibility of the 54 year old Hunter Biden being granted a presidential pardon by his father, Joe Biden.
