Former governor of Bayelsa state Timipre Sylva will according to the state government, be prosecuted alongside others for an alleged involvement in the murder of 31 year old George Sibo a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) agent at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation centre in Brass Local Government Area on November 12, 2023.

According to the current governor of Bayelsa state, Senator Douye Diri, Chief Timipre Sylva led members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to invade the collation centre and held INEC officials hostage. While attending the burial ceremony of George Sibo on Thursday 20th June 2024, Governor Diri ordered that the Bayelsa state Attorney-General commences legal action against Chief Sylva and the other members of his party who stormed the collation center and caused Mr Sibo's death. The governor described the deceased as "a hero who died defending democracy" and vowed that his administration is dedicated to the protection of lives of the people of Bayelsa state.
