Two women are currently undergoing trial over defamation claims made against the First Lady of France in 2022. Brigitte Macron filed a complaint for libel against two women who posted a YouTube video in December 2021 alleging that she had once been a man named “Jean-Michel”. The claim went viral just weeks before the 2022 presidential election. The women, self-proclaimed spiritual medium Amandine Roy and conspiracy theorist Natacha Rey, posted a four hour long video on YouTube claiming that the First Lady had never existed but her brother, Jean-Michel, had changed gender and assumed the identity now known as Brigitte Macron.

Though neither president Macron nor his wife appeared in court, the First Lady's lawyer, Jean Ennochi, who stated that the prejudice was massive and the French first lady attacked in a now deleted YouTube video in The US, demanded 10,000 euros ($10,750) each in compensation for Brigitte Macron and her brother, Jean-Michel Trogneaux. Decision on the case is due to be made on September 12.
